EARLY EDUCATION CENTRE

Ipswich Junior Grammar School’s Early Education Centre (EEC) is our fun and friendly co-educational community of young learners. Your child can start his/her learning adventure from Kindy (three and four years of age) and Pre-Prep (four and five years of age) in a safe, warm and stimulating environment where quality care is our highest priority.

Our Early Education Centre (EEC) offers a nurturing co-educational program for young learners from 3 to 5 years of age, incorporating fun and safety into the learning experience. Using a child-centred approach, the curriculum emphasises natural development and interaction with the environment. The EEC boasts highly-qualified staff and structured rosters to provide consistent care.

Children at our EEC experience a play-based curriculum, focused on social, physical, communicative, and cognitive skills.

Parents are integral to the EEC, and receive regular communication about their child's learning and development. We utilise an online portal to keep parents informed and up-to-date on their child’s progress. Additionally, we hold parent-teacher interviews to provide opportunities for in-depth discussions and collaboration, ensuring we work together to support each child’s growth. Children enjoy a spacious natural play area, and access to the School's expansive resources, including specialist lessons in Music, Physical Education, and Library. Nutritious meals are included daily.

Enrolment Options

Our Early Education Centre offers two enrolment options:

Option 1: Full-time, 5 days per week

Option 2: Part-time, 5 days per fortnight

We offer two daily session options to accommodate families' Child Care Subsidy (CCS) hours and help reduce out-of-pocket expenses. Families can choose between a 10-hour session (7.15am to 5.15pm) or an 11.5-hour session (6.30am to 6.00pm), depending on their subsidy entitlements. This flexibility ensures that families can maximise their CCS benefits while accessing the care their children need.

Check your child’s age eligibility prior to completing an online application form.

Program

Our day is split into three parts with morning activities available from 6.30am before our play-based learning curriculum commences at 8.30am. The children, then, can enjoy afternoon activities from 2.30pm.

Morning Activities: 6.30am to 8.30am

Our boys and girls enjoy an activity-based program conducted by a Lead Educator and Assistant. Activities may be a combination of both indoor and outdoor activities, depending on the season and weather conditions.

Learning Program: 8.30am to 2.30pm

Our daily, play-based learning curriculum, crafted by Diploma-Qualified Educators in Kindy, and Bachelor-Qualified Early Childhood Teachers in Pre-Prep, is tailored to the children's interests, fostering skill development and, thereby, ensuring a seamless transition to Prep.

Afternoon Activities: 2.30pm to 6.00pm

Our afternoon program begins with afternoon tea followed by outdoor activities. The children then move inside where a range of activities is offered. These activities vary throughout the year and may include construction, art, craft and games.

All children wear our EEC navy sun hat and carry a Junior Grammar small-size backpack.

For more information around our Uniform Requirements and Compulsory Uniform Items, please refer to the Uniform Guidelines.

We have many children with dietary requirements and allergies for whom we accommodate. We utilise an external catering company that prepares all meals served at the EEC, including individual portions for children with dietary requirements. Every meal we serve is nut-free as we are a nut-free centre. Children with anaphylactic allergies or asthma will require an ‘Action Plan’ from your doctor on their first day.

Our Kindy educators align their educational program with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), and facilitate an inquiry and play-based program. The educators spend time throughout the year identifying the children’s interests and providing play-based learning experiences based on these interests.

Our Pre-Prep Teachers align their educational program with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG), and facilitate an inquiry and play-based program. Our Pre-Prep children participate in specialist lessons throughout the year, including music, PE and library. Our Pre-Prep program, including specialist lessons, helps support the transition into Prep as we focus on school readiness.

The EEC is operational 50 weeks per year during which your child can attend the centre (we close for two weeks over the Christmas period). Over the Vacation Care period, the centre runs a relaxed, child-led Vacation Care program, and the children can wear sun safe, free dress clothing during this time.
