Our Junior School provides a co-educational environment from Prep to Year 6. It offers a wide range of facilities, including the Angela Geertsma Junior Library and the Bright Sparks Workshop as well as access to the School gymnasium, pool and the Visual and Performing Arts Centre. Within this environment, students are nurtured by passionate and experienced teachers who support an academic curriculum focused on literacy and numeracy skills. The curriculum is adaptable, serving various learning preferences and encompasses subjects such as Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (E-STEAM), along with creative arts, physical education, technology-focused classes, and language courses in Mandarin and German.
The school adopts different teaching methodologies suitable for each age group and embraces an inquiry-based approach to learning. Students have access to tailored intervention and extension programs to support their individual learning needs both inside and outside the classroom setting.
The school instils its values in students, promoting good behaviour and accomplishment through a reward system that includes House points and positive reinforcement. This fosters a culture of respect for school and classroom rules.
Junior Grammar prioritises quality teaching and has achieved academic success for over 20 years. The School offers a challenging curriculum and dynamic teaching methods to promote personal and intellectual growth. We share a campus with the heritage-listed Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School (IGGS), in the heart of Ipswich overlooking the Bremer River. We can be accessed via Junior Grammar Drive off Torch Street, Ipswich, with dedicated Visitor Parking spaces or via the Main Reception of Ipswich Girls' Grammar School, off Chermside Road, Ipswich.
For over 20 years, we have provided a premier co-educational primary education. Sharing a campus with the historic Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School, the School has evolved from a girls-only secondary school to include primary education, embracing co-education in the late 1990's. Additional facilities including the Mavis Parkinson Centre and the Early Education Centre were added in 2009 and 2010. Responding to community feedback, co-education was extended up to Year 6 in 2014. Today, students enjoy a comprehensive Grammar education in a family-oriented environment.
We provide an environment where students engage in both indoor and outdoor learning experiences. Our classrooms afford views of extensive natural play areas. These outdoor spaces are tailor-made for creativity and exploration, featuring elements such as a rainforest with a boardwalk, a frog pond, and ample greenery. The school prioritises physical activity, disconnection from technology, and interaction with nature, which enhance essential developmental skills. Moreover, the diverse outdoor settings are utilised for a range of educational activities, including scientific research, literacy enhancement, forest-school activities, and drama performances in the open-air amphitheatre.
We provide an accredited OSHC service for Prep to Year 6 students managed by Helping Hands Network, located in the air-conditioned John Hancock Centre. The service offers a Rise then Shine program from 6.00am to bell time and then a Stay and Play program from bell time until 6.15pm on school days. Holiday HQ runs from 6.00am to 6.00pm during school holidays and pupil-free days.
The dynamic program is offered by qualified childcare professionals. Activities make use of our school’s extensive facilities which may include swimming, arts and crafts, and indoor and outdoor games. Holiday HQ may include educational and recreational excursions and theme days.
